Little Rock – The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History will host a program to commemorate the 150^th anniversary of the Battle of Jenkins’ Ferry on Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m.  Roy L. Wilson, a seventh-generation resident of Grant County and an award-winning teacher, will present the story of the Civil War battle, which was part of the Camden Expedition, at the museum located at 503 East 9^th St.  This free event is open to the public, and is a sanctioned program of the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission. 

Wilson will discuss the decisions and people that caused the battle to occur when and how it did.  Pictures of the battle’s location in the Saline River bottoms and individual stories of participants will be highlighted.  In his 40^th year in education, Wilson has taught various American and Arkansas history and government classes.  He has received numerous national and state teaching awards, including Walmart Arkansas Teacher of the Year and Grant County Teacher of the Year. Wilson currently works as the gifted and talented and Advanced Placement coordinator for the Sheridan School District.  His book, Sheridan and Grant County, was published in 2012 in the Images of America series by Arcadia Publishing.

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History relates the military heritage of Arkansas and its citizens to a diverse and widespread audience.
